Title: Power tiller attached mobile water pump

Details of innovation developed:
The innovation developed is popularly known as Power tiller attached mobile water pump. The water pump attachment is fitted with power tiller by using a V- belt which is operating through the power tiller. The delivery pipe is connecting water source to the pump for discharge of water with the start of power tiller engine. The mobile water pump is very easy to carry & operate, economic, fuel saving, labour saving and movable device.

Practical utility of innovation:

  1. Economic viability/Feasibility: One litre fuel consumed by the power tiller attached mobile water pump to supply water for 1.45 hrs by increasing the rpm of the pump, whereas, normal pump( 5 HP) consume one litre fuel to supply water only for 1 hrs.
  2. Increasing productivity and sustainability and applicability of the innovation: Timely supply of adequate water in the paddy field leads to increase in the crop productivity. The innovation can be used in remote areas where carrying of normal big size pump is not possible and required more manpower to carry. It is accepted by most of the farmers in the locality.
  3. Resource conservation and resource management: Easy to carry in remote and water scarcity area. Resources like water, fuel, labour and time could be managed properly.
  4. Saving of resource input: Time ,fuel and labour saving
  5. Scope of bringing change in management practice Crop/Animals/Horticulture:
    a. Unproductive/waste land can be made productive
    b. Easily acceptable by the farmers.

Extent of publicity of his / her innovation contribution / success story etc: 3-4 neighbouring villages already adopted the innovation for crop cultivation.

Title: Power tiller attached land leveller

Details of innovation developed:
The innovation developed is known as Power tiller attached land leveller. The attachment is made by using a wooden plank fitted with iron rod attached in the backside of power tiller which is adjustable with the land situation. The innovation helps to level to make uniform land for easy spread of water to whole area in a field. It is very economic for medium & low & medium land area. It is a low cost, labour and time saving device for low& medium land paddy cultivation.

Practical utility of innovation:

  2. Increasing productivity and sustainability and applicability of the innovation: It increase water productivity nearly 45% and crop productivity nearly15-20 % and it is applicable in medium and low land area for paddy cultivation.
  3. Resource conservation and resource management: It conserve water, nutrients, control weeds and save labour. The innovation helps to manage the water resource properly which leads to increase the productivity of crop.

Title: Low cost rabbit rearing farmer’s innovation

Brief description of the innovation/technology and methodology designed/developed (or the innovation transferred by R & D institutions modified according to local situation) by the farmers

The KVK, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Tura, West Garo Hills District of Meghalaya were intervened on Rabbit for meat production with improved breeds New Zealand white and Soviet chinchilla supplied by Animal Science Division, ICAR, Umiam. The rabbit were reared in the scientific house and cage method made of welded iron wire net etc. The farmers were trained on scientific rabbit management and distributed rabbits for their future way of earning. The cost of construction of modern rabbit rearing house was more and not affordable by small and marginal farmers. So, the farmers Sri Arbit Marak of Morokgre village, under Gambegre Block, Sri Chitra Ranjan Hajong and Sri Drurba Hajong of Bhoirakupi village, under Zikzak Block had modified and developed a low cost bamboo house with thatch roofing and bamboo cage for rearing of rabbits to earn more for the period of atleast 3-4 years. The modified system of rabbit rearing saved labour and time with more profitability as compared to scientific method of rearing house and cage of rabbit. This modified system is popular, economical and adaptable across the small and marginal farmers of the locality in the district which was disseminated to the adjoining villages.

The details of the problems addressed and solved

The cost of construction of scientific rabbit rearing house was more and not affordable by small and marginal farmers. Hence, the farmers of West Garo Hills district had innovated the low cost rabbit rearing house and cage to save labour and time as well as to earn more profit.

Outcome

The low cost bamboo house with thatch roofing and bamboo cage for rearing of rabbits brought out across the system for the period of atleast 3-4 years. The net return per rupee investment was recorded with 3.59 in the cage and 3.51 in the house. The farmer’s innovation of low cost rabbit rearing house and cage saved about 13.5 % labour and 55 % time as compared to other rabbit rearing system.
